Part B · Trade — Chapter 10
Taking profit & managing
After this: size each take-profit by the level's timeframe, keep a core, and exit fully only when your reasons die.
Take more at bigger levels
Start with context: volatility + timeframe, with key levels marked from the HTF down. A level's timeframe is its merit. A 15m resistance is not a weekly zone, so take a little at small levels and more at big ones. A parabolic trend running into a key daily zone is where you "scrape off some profit".

In a range: a TP ladder to the other side
A deviation means expect the opposite side. On the way through a ~20% range: take "not nearly as much" at a small line like the 200DMA, 5–10% at mid-range, 5–10% at the next line, and "a good chunk" at the range highs.
▶ Take Profit 11:46 ▶ Take Profit 12:38 ▶ Take Profit 12:49 both
Taking profit is not turning bearish
"I cannot profit from this market unless I take profit." Hold the bulk to the first daily level, sell some there, and keep a core position. "Do not confuse profit taking with flipping bearish." Sell some, ask questions later.

Add to winners, not losers
He used the profit to rebuy the next trend retest. "Add to your winners… let your winners run." Bet on the fighter who is winning, not the underdog. Buy dips on the outperformer (DOGE vs BTC), not on the laggard.

First real break = take more
The first sustainable break of a long-respected trend is a real bearish argument (BTC's hourly 200s after 1.5 months and +77%). If the local trend breaks before your target, and that break is the only bearish argument, split the TP: sell half here, leave half at the box.

Pros and cons, not right and wrong
At a trend break, list the options and pick the one you can stomach. "Decision-making processes are less reliant on what the market did and more reliant on what we convinced ourselves we would be able to stomach." Skip a dip you couldn't stomach and you'll FOMO-buy the local top, which "destroyed your position".

Scale out the way you scaled in
"Reverse engineer it… scale out of my positions the exact same way that I scaled in." While the foundation is concrete (range breakout, above 4H 200s, daily structure break, 200DMA reclaim), don't capitulate at a level. When the arguments that made you bullish are gone, "take your full profit and you walk away". There are two ways to fail: too early (sell a 10% 1H candle, re-buy, give it back) and too anal ("not gonna take any profit until 30k"). The same emotions that make you catch bottoms make you paper-hand.

Pick your trailing timeframe
Trail along one set of 200s and accept its trade-off. The 4H 200s are passive, with fewer tests and less chop but a bigger giveback from the top. The 1H sits in the middle. The 15m is the most actionable, where chop is "a feature, not a bug".

The problem is keeping it
"The issue is always, how do I keep it?" Confidence should track your arguments, not price: has a key level, trend or structure broken? If not, nothing changed but "the Y axis itself". "All trends break", though. It starts with an hourly break, then 4H, then daily, then the 4H 200s / 200D, then the weekly. Take profit at each step down. Ignoring the in-between breaks gives it all back anyway. Cure the cause, not the symptom.

If → then
- TP size ∝ level timeframe: small at LTF lines, a good chunk at daily/weekly zones and range highs.
- Taking profit ≠ bearish. Keep a core while the justifications stand.
- Local trend breaks before the TP → split: sell half now, leave half at the target.
- First significant break of a long trend → take more profit, keep the core.
- Price moves but no level/trend/structure changed → confidence unchanged.
- Bullish arguments invalid → full exit. Scale out the way you scaled in.
